Author Visit: Lindsay Currie on 10/12

10/7/2023 2:53 pm

The students are beyond thrilled to host author, Lindsay Currie, on October 12th. She is the queen of Middle grade spooky books and will be the perfect addition to our October line up. Lindsay will give a whole group presentation to 3-5th grade in the AM and will meet with 4th and 5th grade separately to host a writing workshop focused on Spooky Writing 101. Many of Lindsay's ideas come straight out of Chicago History.

Please consider purchasing an autographed book for your students. All books sold are part of the Book Fair. Purchasing forms are included here, plus we are offering purchase on Skyward. Log into your Skyward account to choose your book options.

So excited!

Devorah Heitner. Growing Up In Public: Coming of Age in a Digital World
Wednesday, October 18, 2023 at 9:30am – 11:00am and 7:00pm - 8:30pm
In Person at The Community House
Registration Link: https://d181foundation.org/community-speaker-series

If you’ve ever said, “I’m so glad my teenage years weren’t shared for the world to see,” this talk is for you! With social media and constant connection, the boundaries of privacy for children are stretched thin. Heitner shows parents how to help tweens and teens navigate boundaries, identity, privacy, and reputation in their digital world. Growing Up in Public empowers parents to cut through the overwhelm to connect with their kids, recognize how to support them, and help them figure out who they are when everyone is watching.

Book Fair & Angela's Angels

10/7/2023 2:35 pm

Mark your calendars!

The BOOOooook Fair is coming Oct. 23-27th. Open during the school day and the evening of Fall Fest. Support your child's love of reading and Monroe school at the same time! Proceeds will be used to update our non-fiction collection and award books.

Earn free books with Andrea's Angels:
The Andrea's Angels program is a new & gently-used, year-round book drive named in loving memory of a local student who volunteered for children's literacy programs. Since 1999,,Anderson's Bookshop has been helping to continue the spirit of Andrea's work and love of books. By coordinating the collection & redistribution of over 1,000,000 books, the Andrea's Angels program has been able to place books with children who have never known the joy of owning their own book.

For each book donated, students will receive a raffle ticket to be entered into our drawing for $10 off at the book fair. 20 prizes will be awarded.

You can drop your books off in the Monroe School foyer beginning October 9th - 20th. Names will be drawn at the end of day October 20th.

Something spooky is coming...

It's time for the Fall Fest! Mark your calendar for an afternoon of fun on Wednesday, Oct 25 from 4:30pm - 6:15pm. Please note: all children must be accompanied by an adult.

Our ever popular Trunk-or-Treat is back, along with the fantastic MRC Book Fair, Monroe Kids Club canned food drive, games, treats, music, and more!

Things to Know:

  1. We'll have Page's famous apple cider donuts, and classic caramel apples fresh from The Fruit Store. Please click HERE or scan the QR code to pre-order your tasty treats! Orders must be received by the end of day on 10/16. (Hot Cocoa and Apple Cider will be available for purchase at the event. Cash only.)
  2. Don’t worry about making dinner on Trunk or Treat night! We have two Community Partner events after Trunk or Treat. Enjoy a sit-down meal with the family at Old Town Pour House or grab sandwiches on the go at Jimmy John’s. Both of our partners are supporting Monroe School and giving back a percentage of sales from Monroe designated sales.
  3. Trunk or TREAT others with kindness by donating canned goods to a food drive hosted by The Kids Care Club at the Trunk or Treat event! Come visit our donation table and bring one or more cans of food; every student who donates a can will receive a special bag to gather goodies and prizes at the trunk stations! All cans will be donated to HCS Family Services.

We CANnot wait to see you there!
