This week students voted on the Reader’s Choice Award.

Here are the winners at Monroe this year.  The state will announce the overall winner on March 22nd.

Monarch Award (K-3) Out of 20 books, students had to read 5.  We read at least 17 during the school year during library classes and paired them with primary sources. 138 students voted and here are the results:

  1.  Claymates by Dev Petty
  2. Bob, not Bob by Audrey Vernick
  3. Creepy Pair of Underwear by Aaron Reynolds (He’ll be visiting Monroe in October.)

Bluestem Award (3-5) Out of 20 books, the students needed to read 4 on their own. Many of these books were Battle of the Books selections and also on the Rebecca Caudill list.  149 students voted and here are the results:

  1. City of Ember by Jeanne DuPrau
  2. Fish in a Tree by Lynda Mullaly Hunt
  3. Moo by Sharon Creech

Rebecca Caudill Award (4-5) Out of 13 books, students needed to read 3 on their own.  One of these books was on the Battle of the Books list and a couple were also on the Bluestem list.  64 students voted and here are the results:

  1. Ghost by Jason Reynolds
  2. Iron Trial by Cassandra Clare and Holly Black
  3. Moo by Sharon Creech

After the students voted they either worked on a project through Clips, presented final projects, or explored the app ARmakr.  In the STEAM lab last week and next, the students have the opportunity to create items related to Dr. Seuss’ most famous books.

It’s been a great week!
